Africa's story is still mostly told by others. This is an open platform for writers who want to tell it in our own words: the people, places, inventions and enterprises that deserve to be remembered, and what they mean for the Africa we are building now.

What to write about

  • Pan-Africanism
  • Industrialisation & manufacturing
  • African legends
  • Discoveries & inventions
  • Unsung heroes
  • Untapped wealth & resources
  • African history & enterprise

Guidelines

  • Original and unpublished. Your story must be your own work and not published elsewhere.
  • 700 to 1,200 words.
  • Every fact sourced with links, so readers and editors can check them.
  • Photos and video must be your own original footage or properly licensed. Credits are required for every image and video.
  • No AI-generated images passed off as real photos.
  • Images: attach up to 3 high-quality images with the form. Netlify, which hosts this site, caps each submission at about 8 MB in total, so keep all images together under 8 MB (large JPGs of about 2–2.5 MB each work well). For bigger files, share a Google Drive or Dropbox link in the story field.
  • Video stories: video files are too large to upload here. Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive or Dropbox and paste the link below.
  • You keep your copyright. You grant a non-exclusive licence to publish your story on this site.
  • Editorial review. Every submission is reviewed and may be edited before publication.
  • No payment. Contributions are unpaid.
  • Reply within about 14 days. We aim to respond to every submission within about two weeks.
